Planning a holiday to Munich with your family? This vibrant city has plenty of things to do for younger members of the family. Here are our favourites:

Visit the Sea Life Centre

The Sea Life Munchen museum has over 10,000 specimens of marine life to marvel at within its huge aquarium tanks! Walk through the glass-topped ‘Tropical Ocean’ tunnel where you’ll be surrounded by exotic sea life.

Watch the Circus

Visit the famous Zrikus Krone, Europe’s largest circus! The shows include acrobats, animals and clowns. Plus children can have a ride on the famous circus horse, Goliath, who’s given onwards of 70,000 horse rides over the past 20 years.

Explore the Fairy Tale Forest

Re-discover the charm of classic German fairy tales such as Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood, with a trip to the Freizeitpark Marchenwald. There are 20 plus fairy tale displays which come to life at the touch of the button – perfect for younger children.

Treat them at the Toyshop

If you’ve been enjoying a day of city sightseeing, stop by Munich’s prized toy store Obletter Spielwaren. This wonderful toy shop spans several floors and is a real delight for children looking to spend their holiday money!

Take to the Boating Lake

For a relaxing afternoon out with all the family, enjoy the Munich summer weather with a stint on the Seehaus boating lake in the Englischer Garten. Tour the mini islands on a paddle boat.

Spend a day at the Zoo

Who doesn’t love a day at the zoo? A great family attraction, Munich Zoo is one of the biggest and best in Germany. It is home to over 450 species of animals grouped continentally. There is also a petting zoo and children can take pony and camel rides!

Browse the Museums

Munich city has numerous interesting museums to choose from, here are five that may be of particular interest to those with children:

  • Museum Mensh und Natur (the Museum of Humankind and Nature) located in the Nymphenburg Palace, it is a great place for kids to explore the natural world.
  • Munich’s Bavaria Filmstadt is the place to go for young movie lovers! The film studios holds stunt shows, 4D cinema shows and is home to the Asterix film sets.
  • Flugwerft Schleissheim is an exhibit dedicated to aircraft and flight. Children can climb into a real plane cockpit and head to the ‘Flying Circus’ to learn about the history of flight.
