Munich Attractions
Munich may not be the capital of Germany but it is no less appealing, the pride of Bavaria and a paradise for beer lovers from across the world, the city is environed by a surprising amount of greenery. Consistently rated as one of the most beautiful cities of Europe, Munich attracts an unprecedented number of people during the famed Oktoberfest.
Since we are on the topic, it would be worthwhile mentioning that Munich is synonymous with a beer experience that will leave you coming back for more. If you enjoy a cool refreshing swig of the frothy elixir in America, wait till you have tasted the German version, served in the festival with the trademark German sausages by the Fräuleins dressed in colorful garb.
The tour of the city should ideally be started at the Mareinplatz; a ‘pedestrian-only’ zone, the area is one of the most popular zones of the city with throngs of tourist frequenting it to make the rounds of the eateries and retail stores that the area houses. Add to this the excitement of street performers displaying their talent in the midst of an enthralled audience and it’s easy to understand why vehicles are not entertained in this crowded area.
From the Marienplatz, you will be able to walk over to the Neues Rathaus; literally translated to the “New City Hall”. The peculiar Neo-Gothic structure is stunning regardless of the odd gargoyles and dragons that stand guard.
For those of you who would like to enjoy the nightlife that the city has to offer but are not sure where to start, simply visit the districts of Schwabing and Münchener Freiheit. Both districts have numerous night clubs and discotheques that will appeal to diverse tastes.
